Reset Toner on Brother Printers
MFC-9330CDW, MFC-9335CDW, MFC-9340CDW and MFC-9140CDN

Brother MFC-9330CDW, MFC-9335CDW and MFC-9340CDW colour laser printers are designed with the toner and imaging drum as separate parts. Sometimes new compatible toners do not reset the printer counter and this causes an error which appears on the LCD screen. After new TN-251 or TN255 toners are installed in the Brother printer, the counter should automatically reset itself. If not, don’t despair the following instructions will certainly assist.

The main reason for this happening:

A: The counter has not automatically tripped when reinserting the new cartridge so a reset must be done. Follow the instructions below to fix the problem.

1. Make sure the machine is turned on
2. Check for the position of the asterick * key and mark it if possible
3. Open the front cover slightly, the latch is above the multifunction door on the front of the printer
   The following 3 steps must be done quickly one after the other (otherwise it will not work)
   The LCD screen now shows “close the front cover”
4. Press and HOLD the * key for 5 seconds
   ( A new screen with Reset Menu should appear) If not repeat steps 3 & 4
5. Select the type of toner by scrolling with the arrow keys (make sure you select the correct one)
   K.TNR HC high capacity TN251 Black
   M.TNR HC high capacity TN255 Magenta
   C.TNR HC high capacity TN255 Cyan
   Y.TNR HC high capacity TN255 Yellow
6. Tap the screen for the appropriate toner.
   (A RESET Yes/No message will show on the screen – accept YES)
   (Accepted will then show)
7. Only reset the necessary toners.
8. When complete close the front cover.
9. The printer should now start to work.
